In the lost for batsmen, India captain Virat Kohli has conceded the second rank to England's Joe Root after managing only 27 runs in the match and 40 in the series so far. Root is now one point ahead of Kohli at 848 points.

Player of the match Lokesh Rahul has gained 23 places to reach 23rd spot after scores of 90 and 51.

Ashwin had overtaken Shakib in December 2015.
India's win in the second Test assured them the No.1 spot in the ICC Test Team Rankings on the April 1 cut-off date and a cash prize of USD one million. The fight is now for the second, third and fourth places.

SBI PO REASONINGN PRACTICE TIPS AND TRICKS

SBI PO REASONINGN PRACTICE TIPS AND TRICKS

SBI PO Prelims is the first hurdle to becoming a Probationary Officer with the top bank in the country. There is tough competition up ahead. In order to make it to one of the 2000+ vacancies, you need to make sure that your basic preparation of the Main 3 subjects is up to the mark, right from the Prelims preparation. The most time consuming of the Main 3 subjects is Logical Reasoning Ability. This is a subject that requires clear conceptual understanding. With Prelims around the corner, here is how you can prepare Reasoning for SBI PO 2017 in 3 Months!
We will be providing important pointers about the Prelims Exam first. So, let us begin by understanding the exam pattern for SBI PO Prelims 2017, followed by Tips to crack SBI PO Exam.
These are the most important chapters in the Reasoning section from the SBI PO exam point of view. These have appeared time and again. You must be very comfortable with these questions as these questions hold the best chance of you clearing the exam.

(1) Coding & Decoding
(2) Inequalities
(3) Syllogisms
(4) Puzzles (Esp Seating Arrangement and Double Line up)
Topics expected to be covered in the Reasoning exam are as follows:
(a) Machine Input Output
(b) Coding-Decoding
(c) Puzzles
(d) Direction and Distance
(e) Order and ranking
(f) Syllogism
(g) Blood relations
(h) Seating arrangement
(i) Arrangement and pattern
(j) Inequalities

Now let us have a look at the Time Management because it is going to play a very crucial role in the exam.

Reasoning is a subject in which most people have a strong hand in and consider it to be their ace or ticket to clearing the cut off as they call it.

It might seem unfair to you that we are giving more preference to reasoning but the fact is that most of the people who have cleared the SBI PO preliminary exam have scored maximum in reasoning. You can mould the time management according to your strength and weaknesses because in the end, you are going to decide everything. It's just a guidance, not the final picture.

Yet we find students making errors and coming out dissatisfied and unsure about the section after the exam. This usually happens when people get attached to questions and end up wasting their time. Do not forget that the purpose of these exams is not to test your knowledge but to test your ability to manage your time and speed. So attempt as many questions you can and that too accurately.

Below are some points that you should take care of:
Do not attempt puzzles or seating arrangements first, do them after you have attempted all the other questions of the section and if you are still left with time in the 20 mins time limit. The reason why we say this is that off late the level of these questions based on puzzles has gradually increased and require more time to solve them. So spending 10 mins for 5 marks doesn't make sense in the exam where you have only 60 minutes to prove your worth.

While solving the questions, skip all the time consuming questions and attempt only those which easily click. Any question that takes more than a minute to solve is meant to be left.

Use the allotted 20 minutes judicially such that the difference between the number of attempts and the number of questions done accurately is very low.

Last but not the least practice online mock exams daily if possible, as this will give you experience and a chance to apply all these tips enabling you with an error free experience in the real battle.

Note: The aim is to attempt a minimum of 15-20 marks at least in this section and approximately 45-48 marks overall to be on a safer side. The willing aspirants should start practicing mock test on last days of exam. It will be useful for them in improving speed and solving the section in stipulated time frame. Candidate should keep one thing in mind that Exam hall is not a place of doing more experiments. Candidate should attempt only those questions of reasoning section on which they are extremely sure.
Now how best to practice and appear in exam?
Make sure you solve at least 4-5 puzzles on a daily basis. Practicing puzzles helps the mind to develop and get accustomed to confusing and complicated situations in a question.
But this does not mean that during the exam you make a promise to solve all the questions. Remember you are not there to prove your knowledge about the subject but to score maximum marks possible in a given time. So best to attempt the easy questions first.

Do not attempt puzzles or seating arrangements first, do them after you have attempted all the other questions of the section, but do keep the time frame in the mind aswell.. The reason for this is that puzzles are usually lengthy and spending 10 mins for 5 marks doesn't make sense in the exam where you have only minutes to prove your worth.

While solving the questions, skip all the time consuming questions and attempt only those which easily click. Time consuming and complicated questions are meant to be left, they are put in the paper to trap the student. So BEWARE

Use the allotted 30-35 minutes judicially such that the difference between the number of attempts and the number of questions done accurately is very low, i.e. you should try to attempt accurately in the exam. Stay away from guess work.

Last but not the least practice on-line mock exams daily if possible, as this will give you experience and a chance to apply all these tips enabling you with an error free experience in the real battle

We have also noticed majority of students struggling in verbal section of reasoning or as you call analytical reasoning. The only way out in this topic is PRACTICE. yes practice daily without fail. initially you will find yourself getting almost all questions wrong for days together, but after each question, go through the answer, and try to make sense out of it. Slowly you will get the hand of it. This is the only way out no substitute of practice in this section.

How best to deal with a difficult paper?

Well if the level of the paper is difficult, then best to become a scavenger hunting for the easiest possible question and getting over with it first, and then peacefully working out the difficult questions. But make sure that you can differentiate between the difficult that are doable and the one which are not, so use your time judicially and do not exceed the time that you have stipulated for each section.
Is it possible to do well in a difficult paper?
Absolutely! If not do well but definitely clear the cutoff comfortable, provided you allocate your time smartly and follow the tips given above.
How does an average student appear for such a paper?
An average student should start by doing the topics that he or she is comfortable in first and aim to clear the cutoff. Do only those questions in which you are 100% sure, no guess work at all. Then move to the other types of questions.
At the end the main advice is to start thinking fast/quick! Do practice a lot! Learn new ways yourself! This is the only section where nobody can teach you the perfect logic! You yourself have to devise those logics that fit for you...

(3)      Do not try to deceive the examiner. Some students write eight or ten lines to every questions                with an expectation that there must be the answer of that question in these lines !
(4)      Try to be original in your answers..

This part is the decision maker in this exam. There will be at least 3 sets, each containing 5 questions. Difficultly level of questions remains high. Normally double diagram questions are asked in which you need to extract data from diagram and use it extract information from another. Go to DI series here
I started Data interpretation series here. In this series I shared 8 sets with difficulty level at par current exams trend.
Simplifications is a matter of past for PO level exams.
Many questions are repeated. Don't practice 3-4 years old exams. Try to find and solve model question papers.

Solve at least 7-8 sectional papers before appearing for exam, find out how much time is ideal.
Try to use estimates and tricks. It's near to impossible to attempt 200 questions within 120 minutes. You have already shared many tricks in my previous posts

2. SELECT THE RIGHT QUESTIONS:

Spend a few seconds browsing through the section. Look for easy/medium level questions or questions that suit your strength. Solve a problem ONLY if you can do it quickly. For example, if you get a compound interest problem, you may be able to solve it. But I doubt you will be able to solve it in under 3 minutes, unless you are very strong in the topic and can do quick calculations. It might be better to solve a number operation question and a simple probability question IN THE SAME TIME. Always keep your target in mind. If you think you need to get 30 or 35 right, and then try to use this to your advantage. You can leave some of the most difficult questions and focus on your strengths.

3. Simple and Scoring Questions:-

Start your aptitude with these questions. These questions are commonly very easy to solve, require less time and you can easily get high accuracy. There are around 16-18 questions from this category.
Data Insufficiency (one of the DI Sets )
Simplification
Arithmetic Topics : Questions on Ages, Percentage, Averages, S.I / C.I, Profit & Loss, Ratio & Proportions.

4. Time taken Questions

Questions in this topic are complex/difficult than above and may require more time to solve these questions. These are time consuming as well as difficult question we need to solve this question using some short or easy trick. Attempt them after solving first category questions.
Some of the questions are complex and tricky. Accuracy will depend on amount of practice done before exam. The number of questions will be around 11-16 Questions from this category.

Probability

Quadratic Equations

Arithmetic Topics : Mixture and allegations , Time Speed, Time and Work and Distance

Another DI Set

Number Series
For those students who just want to clear sectional cut offs solving first category questions with a few question from second will be complete but then you will need to solve excellent number of question in both English and Reasoning to clear the overall cutoff.

5. Topic wise Tips

Data Interpretation: If the answers are numbers not close to each other, then you do not need to do the exact calculations. You can round off the numbers and do approximate calculations and select the answer closest to the answer you calculated. No other planning can beat the option elimination technique in DI section. Try to avoid doing long calculations as in an exam that requirement aspirants to solve 100 questions in 60 minutes; you may end up wasting and not investing your time by doing long calculations. If you are good with calculations and approximation techniques, percentage, ratio & proportion and option elimination technique - these questions are very easily to solve.

Quadratic Equations - Revising your high school mathematics book on factorization can assist you finding the roots of the quadratic equations faster.

6. GUESS:

Random guessing should not be done, because you lose ¼ mark for every wrong answer. But if you can eliminate 2 or 3 choices, THEN DEFINITELY GUESS. The probability of getting it right is 1/3 or 1/2, instead of 1/5. Many times you can eliminate options that are too big or too small. So even you cannot solve the problem, guess. You have a good chance of getting it right.

7. General Mistakes to Avoid:

Not Reading Questions Completely, In Quant section there is a most common mistake made by students. In hurry to solve questions faster, they don't read the questions clearly and end up making mistakes. This problem can cause obstruction as even after solving the question methodically, you will not get the compatible option. And then, it becomes a forceful task to identify as to where you doing wrong. Hence, read twice & carefully before you go ahead and start solving.

8. Avoid Risky Shortcuts

You may be of the angle that the whole point of speed test is to solving question quick possible then why avoid shortcuts. If you have practiced a particular shortcut or trick on lot many questions during your preparation then go ahead. But, if you have just read little shortcut or any other trick during last time of your preparation, avoid using it in the exam as you do not know the conditions and situation in which this particular shortcut can be applied. Solve the question using conventional way even if it takes more time.

SBI PO: ENGLISH PRACTICE TIPS AND TRICK

SBI PO: ENGLISH PRACTICE TIPS AND TRICK

SBI PO Prelims is the first hurdle to becoming a Probationary Officer with the top bank in the country. There is tough competition up ahead. In order to make it to one of the 2000+ vacancies, you need to make sure that your basic preparation of the Main 3 subjects is up to the mark, right from the Prelims preparation. The most time consuming of the Main 3 subjects is English. This is a subject that requires clear basic language understanding. With Prelims around the corner, here is how you can prepare Reasoning for SBI PO 2017 in 1 Month!

We will be providing important pointers about the Prelims Exam first. So, let us begin by understanding the exam pattern for SBI PO Prelims 2017, followed by Tips to crack SBI PO Exam.
English language is one of the important sections of SBI or any other recruitment exam. Although it is the most avoided and least prepared section. Most of the candidates unable to crack SBI and other bank exams because they are unable to qualify sectional cutoffs and most of the candidates fail because they are unable to clear cutoff in this section.

Today we will provide study plan, please read it carefully, you will find interesting tips and shortcuts to score high in English section.
The English Section for the SBI PO exam can be broadly divided into these parts as given below. We will include individual strategies for each section in this article.

Vocabulary

Grammar

Reading Comprehension

Verbal Ability

The Syllabus for English in SBI PO Prelims and SBI PO Mains is pretty similar. If you prepare for SBI PO 2017 Prelims earnestly, you won't need to do a second round of preparation of English for SBI PO 2017 Mains. There are 30 questions in the Prelims examination and 35 questions in the Mains paper. So you need a solid grasp of concepts.

In order to be successful in this section, you need to know to focus on three important aspects during
the exam:

1. Accuracy - Always try to attempt the questions with 100% accuracy. As you know negative marking system exists in this exam, which is why you must ensure that you answer each question correctly. Attempting questions with accuracy will increase chances of scoring high and help you to clear the sectional cutoff.

2. Speed - Try to maintain constant speed during the exam otherwise you will lose your valuable time.

3. Which topic you should attempt in English Section? -
As banking exams are all about accuracy and speed, you never skip any one of the above aspects if you are looking to score well. But the catch is that your speed and accuracy in the exam depends a lot on questions you attempt first.

The English Language section of the SBI PO Prelims exam consists of questions such as Reading comprehension, Cloze test, Para -Jumbles, Spotting error and Fill in the blanks

1. How to Prepare READING COMPREHENSION in English for SBI PO 2017
The passage will likely be based on topics like Banking & Economy, Geo-Politics, Social Issues, Business etc. The good thing is that the questions will be directly based on the content of the passage. But you must be alert while choosing the correct option as the options are, sometimes, very similar.
The questions will be mainly Fact-Based, Inference Based and Vocabulary based. Some questions can also be asked on the Main Idea & Theme of Passage. You may also be asked to draw Inferences based on your understanding of the passage.

Questions will be either 10 or 7/8. If not 10 then no vocab based question.
Additionally, the questions based on author's opinion can be asked.
You will have to draw inference of the overall meaning of the passage or a few lines. This will be an implicit inference so you need to read the passage carefully.
The passages are of medium length, thus the habit of reading fast and understanding the intent of the passage needs to be developed to minimize the time and maximize the output.
Practice one comprehension question daily from questions available on the Daily Hunt Exam Preparation app. Constant practice will help you achieve accuracy and minimize the time required.
Practice comprehensions from various topics because you never know what kind of topic you are going to face in the paper.

How to Prepare VERBAL ABILITY in English for SBI PO 2017

This section consists of a 6 sentence para jumble with 5 questions based on it Questions on sentence completion or paragraph completion may be asked, where you need to complete a sentence understanding the context of the sentence/paragraph.
This is a relatively easy section and you can practice these questions occasionally from the Daily Hunt Exam Preparartion app.
Follow the logic of the passage while answering these questions. Always keep in mind the overall story, as the passage will always tell you a story with a definite beginning, middle and end.
Look for connecting words like conjunctions that will help you link the story well.
Since IBPS is conducting the exam so it is likely that they will experiment with the verbal ability section like they did in IBPS PO 2017. You can expect topics like Odd Sentence Out.

2. Cloze Test:-
One paragraph with numbered blanks. These questions are easy and help you improve your performance. If you are confused between two options, then move onto to the next question, solve it and come back to the question where you are confused. You will now have a better idea about the correct choice.

3. Fill in the blanks:
Go with the elimination rule and you can easily solve this section by eliminating options and getting them down to 50-50 choice. Again, trust your instinct for choosing between the two options.

4. Parajumbles: -
The objectives of these types of sentences are to rearrange the sentences in the original sequence. It consists of a group of sentences that have been jumbled up. Five or Six sentences are given in a random order and you have to un-jumble all of them.
Tips to solve Parajumbles in exam -
(A) Try to understand the basic idea of the given passage. It will help you to arrange sentences quickly. All you need to do is identify the logical connection between the sentences.
(B) Generally, the given information in the jumbled sentences changes from general to specific. If you observe, you can see that the first few sentences are generic while those that follow are fact-specific and informative.
(C) Sometimes, a good knowledge of option analysis helps to rule out the possible answers from the given options. This trick will save a lot of time.
(D) The key is to find the first sentence quickly as it will give us a linear direction with respect to the given content.
(E) Similarly, guessing the concluding sentence will give you both the ends of the linear connecting idea.
(F) Generally, sentences denoting time, place & name are the most probable opening lines.

5. Sentence Correction: -
In this topic you have to find the correct alternatives which may improve the sentence. Sometimes there is no correction required than your answer will no improvement.
Tips to solve Sentence Correction in Exam -
(A) Read the original sentence carefully and try to spot grammatical errors by identifying whether something "sounds" wrong.
(B) Always look at every choice.
(C) Even when the original sentence seems fine, pay attention to the grammar that it tests and look through the choices systematically to see if any provides a better option.
(D) As you locate each error, eliminate all of the choices that contain that error.
(E) Do not read each answer choice back into the sentence individually; that wastes time and invites inaccuracy.
(F) Instead, identify the differences among the choices and eliminate those that offer less effective or grammatically incorrect alternatives.

6. Spotting Error: -
You have to find the grammatical error in the sentence. Four to five questions are expected to come in the SBI PO Prelim Exam. This type of questions requires good grammatical sense.
Tips to solve Spotting Error in exam -
(i) In order to solve questions on spotting errors, the first step you should take is to read the complete sentence carefully. In most of the cases, you will be able to detect the error in the first go itself.
(ii) While reading the entire sentence, you must carefully check the subject-verb agreement.
(iii) If you can still not detect the error or you are still unsure of the correct answer, then you must read each individual part of the sentence and closely examine which part consists of an error.
